Big Day Out

A Photo Essay of Raft Fishing the Goulburn River

The Goulburn River in central Victoria is the state's most popular trout river. We run our rafts down it almost every day and this is a selection of photos from our trip yesterday, November 8 2001.

The Goulburn is a stunningly beautiful river and unless you have seen it from one of our drift boats you are missing out. The daytime hatches of caddis and the evening appearance of the mayfly give us some of the best fishing in the country.

Shallow gravel and weedbeds give life to countless millions of aquatic insects and the regular hatches make it a favorite desination.

Right now the river is in perfect condition. It is at a fantastic level for insect hatches and is gin clear and cold. Have a look at the photos on this page and the ones that follow. Click on an image to get the full size version.
